(Herald / Alexis Taylor-Young) The Clever Clovers 4H club members received recognition and awards this week through participation at either the Tunbridge Fair or the The Big E in Springfield, Mass.

Selected to perform stage presentations at the Big E were Geneva Audette and Alex Madden, who sang “Start Over;” and Alexis Taylor Young, who signed “Y.M.C.A.” in P.S.E.

Stage performers at the Big E appear seven times over two days. I enjoy getting audience participation in my performance, so at first I would get a few people to sign along with me, but eventually I got a whole club of kids to sign along with me on stage! I know both: PSE (Pidgen Sign English) and ASL (American Sign Language); to simply describe the difference, PSE uses most of the same signs as ASL, but PSE is more word based while ASL is more concept based. I have so much fun at this event

A team demonstration about how to tie a rope halter included Peter Thornton, Kaleb Thornton, Greg Bachard, Geneva Audette, Camiren Audette, and Alex Madden. Keenan Thygesen placed second in fitting and showmanship with his Ayrshire spring calf.

The rest of the club members were active at the Tunbridge Fair. Olivia Campbell took first place with her 4-H horse project, and won Grand Champion In-Hand Mare and registered breed.

In the dairy show, Dylan Slack won Grand & Supreme Champion and Tyler Slack placed first for his age group. Will Foreman was the overall champion for the Junior competition and Sara Foreman was first in her age group. Morgan Caron placed first in both the open and junior divisions for winter calves.

In the poultry show, Zachary and Sylvia Johnson placed first in the Intermediate and Junior fitting and showmanship, while Gabe Howe placed first in the Senior division.

Julia Howe, Hayden Howe, A.K. Nolin, Gabe Howe, and Zachary and Sylvia Johnson participated in both poultry and dairy. William Vogt, Hayleigh Howe, Jack Nolin and Sabreena Audette showed poultry. Will Foreman, Sara Foreman, Morgan Caron, Dylan Slack and Tyler Slack participated in the dairy competitions.
