Communities / Aug. 10, 2017 11:33am EDT

The VA sponsors “Welcome Home” events around the country for returning military service members and their families.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, the White River Junction VAMC and Vet Center will host a softball tournament and barbecue to honor local soldiers, veterans, and their families. The event, which will be held at the Maxfield Sports Complex on Leslie Drive in Hartford, is made possible by the sponsors including: the Town of Hartford, White River Junction VFW Post #2571, Lebanon VFW Post #9552, and the Lebanon American Legion Post #22, the post’s Son’s (SAL) squadron, and Ladies Auxiliary of Post 22.

The opening ceremony and first pitch will begin at 9 a.m. and the barbecue will start at 11 a.m. with live music. Activities for families and information on VA benefits, Veteran Service Organizations, and how the community can help ease the transition of soldiers into civilian life will be offered all day long.

A closing ceremony and the awarding of trophies will begin around 6 p.m. Whether you would like to enjoy watching a game of softball played in honor of and by our troops or listen to live music while eating some good barbecue, this event is open for the public.
