Fourteen intrepid readers arrived at the finish line for the Race to Read on Monday, where they were given awards by Gary Mullen (The Flying Farmer, #29) and Donna Scott.

It’s not too late to join in the fun. If any young reader completes 15 books by September 30 (the final Saturday race at Thunder Road), she or he can bring this list to the race for special honors. Privileges may include visiting pit crews or announcing time to “start your engines!” Check in at the library for more details.

There is something new every time you come into the library. This week, there is a gauntlet of Jane Austen trivia alongside the Austen titles in the collection. If you get just two of the 10 questions right, you will have the awe and respect of Austenites throughout town!

Consider coming by next Wednesday evening, Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. for the next gathering of fiber artists in the valley, whether you are learning a new technique, sharing a project, or just enjoying good company. The current ArtSpace exhibit, “Connecting Fibers,” contains work from some of the same artists who attend; this show will continue through August 26.

Mark your calendar for Sunday, Aug. 27 at 12:30 p.m. for the Friends of the Library Volunteer Picnic. Celebrate the glue that keeps the community strong and vibrant—from volunteer firefighters, church volunteers, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, and so many more. Bring your favorite dish to share, and the library will provide beverages, ice cream, and more.

Regular library hours are Monday and Wednesday, 3-8 p.m.; Thursday and Friday, 3-6 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. For more information, call 889-9404.
