‘Sprouty’ in Sharon Is Benefit For Farm to School Program

Communities / Aug. 10, 2017 11:33am EDT

The annual Sprouty fundraiser will take place on Saturday, Sept. 9, beginning at 9 a.m. The organizers are looking for walkers, runners, volunteers, and people to just come and have fun.

This race is an important part of Sharon Elementary School’s Farm to School program. The proceeds help get fresh food into the cafeteria and allow students to participate in growing food in the school gardens. Not only does the program improve the nutrition at the school, but it also teaches students the skills they need to grow fresh, healthy food, and how to prepare it.

Health Connections of the Upper Valley was a founding organizer of the event and continues to be a key sponsor, as well as the fiscal agent.

This year’s 5K walk/run, 10K run and Kids’ Fun Loop will again feature music by Still More Cats 2, free lettuce plants from Dandelion Acres, and free refreshments, including smoothies. The Skinny Pancake will be there making and selling crepes.

Kids 12 and under are free. If you register before August 25 you save money and guarantee a free T-shirt.
