(Herald / Tim Calabro) The RUHS Lady Ghosts have six returning varsity players this year: Seniors Brittany LaFreniere and Jackie Lumbra; juniors Rachel Johnson and Mariah Rilling; and sophomores Mikaela Farmer and Kelsey Jacobs. To the returning players they have added senior Sascha Jarvis, juniors Alyssa Daubenschmidt, Kalie Eaccarino, Mandy Rogers, and Sarah Stalnaker, and sophomore Samantha Tullar. The Ghosts continue to be coached by Head Coach Scott LaFreniere and Assistant Coach Mike Czok.

Saturday, Dec. 14 the Ghosts traveled to Hartford, where they faced and defeated the Hurricanes in the season opener, 35-26. The game was close throughout the first quarter, leaving both teams nearly scoreless. Going into halftime, the Ghosts were down, but only by a few and certainly within reach of the Hurricanes.

Coming out of the locker room both teams were ready to play strong, appearing to have worked off the first-game jitters. The game remained close in the third quarter, but still the Hurricanes held onto the lead.

By the end of the fourth quarter, the Ghosts took the lead and hung on to it for a win, the first win for the Lady Ghosts as they make their debut in Division 2 basketball this year. Points were spread among many of the team members: Jacobs 12, Rilling 11, Jarvis 4, Lafreniere 3, Johnson 2, Farmer 2, and Tullar 1.

The Lady Ghosts have home games this week on Tuesday against Northfield and Saturday at 7 against Williamstown.
