South Royalton, VT - Alfred J. Paquin, Jr., 85, died Sunday December 12th at the Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT.

He was born June 14, 1925 in Newport, VT a son of Alfred and Nellie (Johnson) Paquin. Al grew up in Newport and worked on the railroad. During World War II he served in Europe with the US Army from 1943 until 1946. He returned from the war and continued working on the railroad for a time before moving to Connecticut to be nearer to the love of his life, Jeanet Garrett. They were married in 1951 in East Hartford, CT. While in Connecticut he worked as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney. They returned to Vermont in the early 1960's and have lived in South Royalton for nearly fifty years. Al worked with the State of Vermont Highway department caring for the Interstates in Central Vermont until his retirement in 1990.

Mr. Paquin enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as spending summers camping on Lake Memphamagog, and loved his dogs and watching the birds at his feeders.

He was a past member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars in South Royalton and life member of the American Legion in White River Jct. and the Veteran's of Foreign Wars in Newport, VT.

He was predeceased by five brothers and five sisters.

Al was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of nearly sixty years, Jeanet, of South Royalton; he also leaves several nieces, nephews and a longtime friends and neighbors Roy and Nancy Wight of South Royalton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10AM Thursday, December 16 at St. Anthony's Church in White River Jct. Burial will be in the Branchview Cemetery in South Royalton. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at <>
