Springhill, Fla.—Ray F. Thompson, 80, formerly of Brookfield, died June 25, 2010 at Tampa General Hospital, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

He was born in St. Johnsbury, September 8, 1929, son of the late Guy and Anna (Steadiford) Thompson.

On October 28, 1967, he married Helen Eunice Elizabeth Sears in Riverton. They later divorced. He later married Delores Goodsell, who predeceased him.

He was a self-employed entrepreneur and also worked for the Champlain Valley Work and Training Program in the mid 1970s, as well as at the granite sheds in Barre.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing and also worked on Mike Buzzi’s race car at Thunder Road many years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Rena Thompson of Northfield and Audrey Thompson of Arizona; and two sons, Robert Thompson and his wife, Anna Adams Thompson, of Northfield, and Ray F. Thompson Jr.; a stepson, Ray Goodsell of Florida; his companion for the past six years, Helen Thompson; a step-grandson; a step-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his second wife, a son, Guy Thompson; two brothers, Carl and William Thompson; and a sister, Audria Thompson.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held July 24 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church on Main Street in Northfield, with a reception to follow at the church. Burial will be at a later date.
