Local Free Throw Champions

Seven boys and girls from Bethel and Randolph ages 10-14 were named local champions of the 2007 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship and have earned the right to compete at the district level. The George F. Johnson Council #10241 Bethel/Randolph sponsored the local competition at RUHS on Sunday, Jan. 21.

Kiel Callahan (Bethel) was the 10-year-old girls’ champion. Zachary LaPerle (Randolph) was the 11-year-old boys’ winner. Twelve-year-old winners in the girls’ and boys’ division were Brianna Mackey (Randolph) and Cody Thurston (Randolph). The 13-year-old girls’ division was won by Angel Blanchard (Randolph). Fourteen-year-old champions were Heather Mugford (Randolph) and Tyler Lafreniere (Randolph). Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.

Each of these winners is eligible to compete in the district competition to be held on February 18 at Norwich University with and eye toward moving to the state and international finals.
