Ira Morrison

ROCHESTER—Ira Fisher Morrison, 78, died Sunday evening, Dec. 21, 2003 at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.

He was born March 19, 1925 in Washington, Iowa; the son of George F. and Cornelia L. (Gifford) Morrison. He grew up in Washington, Iowa, then entered the U.S. Army, serving as a PFC First Scout in Company L. during the Battle of the Bulge of World War II.

He married Eleanor Jane Tucker June 20, 1946 in Washington, Iowa. He worked for the FBI in Maryland and New York, then moved to Iowa in 1957 to practice law with his father and brother. He served as Washington County (Iowa) Attorney for many years, and was appointed District Court Judge for the State of Iowa in 1970 by then Gov. Robert Ray.

He retired to Naples, Fla. in 1989, where he was a member of the First Christian Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He summered in Rochester and enjoyed his grandchildren and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Jane Morrison of Rochester and Naples, Fla.; a son, Thomas T. Morrison of Hillsboro, Oregon; daughters: E. Ann Benton of Columbia, Md. and Mary B. Weden of Moscow, Russia; brothers, Donald Morrison of Clearlake, Iowa, and Gifford Morrison of Washington, Iowa; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Aug. 1, 2004 at the Rochester Federated Church in Rochester. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester. There will be no calling hours.
